Winter 2008-2009Regular network collaborators are dry-docked for the winter. Starting in May, check for the weekly update of this map for information concerning the distribution of whale sightings. The belugas are the only whales that reside in the St. Lawrence year round. At the end of autumn they leave their summer distribution area to head downstream towards the Gulf. Other species of whales migrate out into the Atlantic Ocean, however we occasionally observe a few individuals in the St. Lawrence over the winter. To keep up to date on winter sightings, read the weekly Whale news network bulletin. |
